In rural areas, the availability of sustainable and decent livelihood opportunities is limited, leading to a cycle of poverty, inequality, and social exclusion. The creation of sustainable livelihood opportunities is crucial for enhancing the lives of rural communities, particularly women, and empowering them economically and socially.

Our Sub-Focus Areas

We work with communities to increase their household income and focus on the socio-economic empowerment of women through farm and non-farm livelihood programs.

Building Skills and Capacities for Sustainable Livelihoods

Collective Action for Enhanced Production and Market Opportunities

Agricultural Skills and Entrepreneurship Training

In partnership with Oxfam India, we support 40 tribal villages in Odisha, aiming to double the income of 2,000 tribal households in the Semiliguda and Pottangi blocks of the Koraput district over three years through women-led farming and market linkages.

Launched in February 2021, this initiative on women-led vegetable farming has brought significant improvements to 40 villages. The primary focus of the project is to enhance income by equipping women farmers with agricultural techniques for improved production, linking them with government schemes, and providing market opportunities.

Collectivized Production and Marketing

In partnership with Oxfam India, we support the establishment of market facilitation centers to provide assistance to women farmers in weighing produce, inquiring about prices, and participating in vendor meetings. Two market facilitation centers (MFC) were established last year to offer support to women farmers. These MFCs are situated at the wholesale marketplace of the block and provide services such as weighing farmers’ produce before selling, inquiring about prices, and facilitating meetings with vendors to explore the potential for collective action in marketing
